Compass privacy policy

Effective date: October 27, 2026 · Publisher: Pineapple Bytes. This policy applies to Compass for Android, package com.pineapplebyte.compass. For privacy questions, contact eddy.studio.dev@gmail.com.

Compass is an independent Android compass. It does not require a Pineapple account and does not operate a custom server or cloud synchronization service.

Your saved points

Names, captured magnetic headings, timestamps, addresses and notes are stored in the app’s private database on your device. If you choose to add location, the record may also contain measured coordinates, the fix time, horizontal accuracy and available GNSS altitude information. These records are not sent by the app to an advertising service or included in app diagnostic messages. Android app backup and device transfer are excluded for these records. Deleting a point removes it from the app database; uninstalling the app or changing devices can lose all records. There is no app-managed backup, export or cloud recovery.

Optional location

You can choose to show your current address and available elevation from an optional introduction when opening Compass, or enable it later in Settings. Location is not needed for the compass or for saving a heading, typed address or note. You can skip or deny permission, and approximate location is accepted. While address and elevation display is enabled, Compass refreshes location only in the foreground. Turning it off stops those requests and hides the address and elevation. The app does not request background location or use your measured coordinates for advertising. Saving coordinates to a point still requires choosing “Add current location”; enabling address and elevation display does not attach coordinates to saved points automatically. The device may convert GPS altitude to an approximate sea-level elevation locally. The system location provider may use network services to obtain a fix. Address lookup sends measured coordinates to the device’s geocoding provider, which may require a network connection. A failed lookup does not prevent using the compass or saving. Tapping the current address opens a maps app, or a map website if no maps app is available, and passes the displayed coordinates to that provider under its own privacy policy.

Advertising and choices

The free version uses one Google AdMob banner, through the Google Mobile Ads Next-Gen SDK and Google’s User Messaging Platform. Ads are requested only when the app is in the foreground, ownership is confirmed free and the consent SDK permits requests. Where required, an advertising privacy choices control is available in Settings. Saved point fields are never attached to ad requests.

Google’s advertising SDK may collect and share IP-derived general location, app/ad interactions, SDK diagnostic information and device/account identifiers for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. These SDK practices are separate from the local saved-point database. Google describes them in its SDK disclosure and Privacy Policy. Applicable behavior depends on consent, device settings, region and SDK configuration. There is no separate app analytics or crash-reporting SDK added by Compass.

Purchases

Google Play handles payment. The app receives a signed purchase receipt and caches it privately so confirmed ad removal can work offline. It validates the Compass package, product, completed state and signature locally, then acknowledges delivery with Google Play. It does not receive your payment card details. Restoring uses the current Google Play account. A reliable Play ownership query may remove cached ad removal after a refund or revocation; offline and account-cache delays can affect when that happens. There is no purchase sharing with Pineapple Stock. Restoring a purchase does not recover saved points.

Device controls and contact

You can deny or revoke location permission in Android settings, manage advertising identifiers in Android settings, and manage purchases through Google Play. Clear app storage or uninstall to remove local app data; this also removes saved points and cached purchase receipts. A valid purchase can be restored separately through Play. For privacy questions or requests, contact Pineapple Bytes at eddy.studio.dev@gmail.com. We cannot retrieve saved points from your device; please do not send saved addresses, coordinates, notes, payment details or purchase tokens in a support message.

Security, service providers and policy changes

Compass keeps saved points and cached purchase receipts in Android app-private storage. Google handles advertising, consent and Play billing; location and address lookup are provided by your device’s selected system services. These providers may process information outside your country under their own policies. Their retention periods and controls are described in the linked provider policies; clearing Compass data does not delete records held by Google or other providers. No storage or transmission method can guarantee complete security.

We may update this policy as Compass or its providers change. The effective date above identifies this version. Contact Pineapple Bytes using the address above for questions about a change.
